Care for Hedland
In 2004, Care for Hedland began as a community-based turtle monitoring program to support the threatened flatback sea turtle that nests on the beaches of Port Hedland, Australia. This project is aimed to both raise awareness of the plight of the turtles as well as gain valuable knowledge about breeding patterns using non-invasive monitoring methods. Turtle Monitoring is done yearly from October to March and volunteers, either local or tourists who happen to be in town, can participate in nest monitoring or turtle tagging during the breeding season.
